Pequeña Miss Sunshine y Half Nelson partían como favoritas para los Spirit Awards que se entregaron el pasado 24 de febrero. Los premios reconocen a producciones más independientes en comparación con las de los grandes estudios.
La primera se llevó 4 trofeos: película, directores, primer guión y actor secundario. La segunda se llevó los reconocimientos para los protagonistas, mejor actor Ryan Gosling y mejor actriz Shareeka Epps.
