A lo largo de la carrera de Neil Young, algunos programas especiales se han ganado una reputación importante. Shakey Pictures Records y Reprise Records anuncian Carnegie Hall 1970, como el primer lanzamiento de una serie de archivos del músico, The Neil Young Official Bootleg Series. Se anuncian otros 5 para 2022.
Carnegie Hall, grabado en multipista analógico original, fue mezclado por The Volume Dealers, es decir, Neil Young y Niko Bolas. Esta grabación se hizo el 4 de diciembre de 1970 y fue la primera vez que Neil se subió al escenario del Carnegie Hall neoyorkino. Es la primera de las dos funciones.
Con versiones simplificadas de los temas "Everybody knows this is nowhere", "Down by the river", "Helpless" y "Sugar mountain", además de "After the gold rush", del álbum del mismo título, lanzado unos meses antes del espectáculo del Carnegie Hall. Neil incluso toca las canciones "Bad fog of loneliness", "Old man" y "See the sky about to rain" antes de que fueran grabadas y lanzadas.
