If you ever change your mind es una canción de Calum Scott, una reflexión agridulce pero edificante sobre una relación dolorosa, como tercer avance de su segundo álbum, Bridges (2022). Con producción de Greg Kurstin (Paul McCartney, Elton John, Adele), el tema se abre con una interpretación vocal de Calum, acompañada únicamente por un melancólico piano. A medida que la canción se desarrolla y sus ritmos dominantes se ponen en marcha, Calum mira hacia atrás en un romance roto con pesar y perspectiva renovada (desde el preestribillo: "Me alejé porque el dolor es demasiado fuerte/y tú decías que no debíamos estar juntos"). Co-escrita por Calum, construye en última instancia una tensión entre su afecto interminable y el nuevo sentido de autoestima.
Dice Calum: "Hace cinco años, me enamoré con tanta fuerza que, desde que nos separamos, ha habido un lazo invisible entre nosotros, que a veces existe en silencio y otras veces tira de mí como una cuerda atada a mi pecho. Me reuní con Mozella y Hayley Warner en Los Ángeles para escribir este tema y tuve el placer de trabajar con la leyenda Greg Kurstin en el tema y las voces. Disfruté mucho de la introducción de un nuevo sonido con Greg en esta canción. Creo que conseguimos el equilibrio entre una letra que cuenta la historia de desamor y conflicto, pero que mantiene un sonido esperanzador y evocador que hace que esta canción haga sentir tan bien".
Dirigido por Harry Law, el vídeo de "If you ever change your mind" dramatiza maravillosamente la narrativa de anhelo y emoción conflictiva de la canción. Para ello, el vídeo se centra en una pareja distanciada que se enzarza en un intenso tira y afloja, un elemento perfectamente capturado en la coreografía meditativa e infinitamente hipnótica del audiovisual.
