Tiene el espíritu y la energía de protesta y de activismo social e incluye referencias a varios artistas icónicos, activistas pro derechos civiles, cuyos mensajes precisamente de protesta llevaron a cambios importantes. Entre otros, en las letras se hace mención a Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, James Brown, Nina Simone (a quien hace referencia en el título) y Mavis Staples cuya voz figura en la canción.
Hozier dice de la canción: "Escribí la canción el año pasado. Mi idea era reflejar la esperanza, solidaridad y el amor que podemos encontrar en el ser humano. De alguna manera la canción es un agradecimiento a un legado de artistas del Siglo 20 cuyo trabajo nos ha inspirado a todos y que nos han ayudado en momentos de incertidumbre. Mavis Staples es una de esas artistas".
Mavis Staples comenta: "Nina va a hacer despertar al mundo. Tiene un sonido tan grande que hará temblar la tierra. Está llena de soul, pasión y fuego y canaliza las luchas de muchos de mis contemporáneos".
Con un videoclip estrenado el 12 de septiembre de 2018.
